It’s difficult enough being a teen in today’s fast-paced, technology-crazed world. But student athletes have added pressures. They deal with the typical stressors that their peers face, but also with challenges unique to playing a high-level sport.
Some of the most common student-athlete stressors include meeting the performance expectations of the coach, parents and fans; lack of self-confidence in athletic ability; and dealing with setbacks due to injury. While schools and athletic programs have come a long way in providing resources to help with academics, it’s important not to overlook the mental health needs of a student athlete. A licensed professional counselor can help address the issues that might be impacting the student’s personal development and growth.
As a behavioral therapist, licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC), and a former elite college athlete and coach, I enjoy counseling students and struggling athletes with a variety of personal issues including performance expectations. My goal is to get to really know you and help you discover, respect and love the inner you. Together we will forge a strong and trusting relationship. Through the process, I will help you find relief and a joy in both school and sports.
I am trained in a variety of counseling services. I am here to guide you in achieving a better understanding of yourself, and to help you build upon your own personal life skills, distress tolerance and coping strategies. Some of my more commonly employed behavioral health services are: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness and Solution Focused Therapy. Together we can lift the obstacles and barriers that have prevented your growth and work towards turning them into opportunities for positive change.
