Studies show the benefit of both black and green coffee, but lay off the latte.  Plain coffee can improve cardiovascular health and even aid in weight loss.  Although the flavorful, exotic concoction whipped up by your local barista cannot make the same claim, straight-up coffee without the additions can boast about its roast. There are diverse studies showing the health benefits of black or green coffee without any added ingredients,

Green coffee bean extract is a popular weight loss supplement.  But simply drinking green or black coffee can also have its health benefits.  Essentially, green coffee is made with unroasted coffee beans.  But both types have been shown potentially to have some small value for regular coffee drinkers.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BLACK OR GREEN COFFEE

Coffee, especially green, is a rich source of both caffeine and chlorogenic acid (CGA).  CGA is a compound with antioxidant activity that may also have antihypertensive and weight reducing effects. The weight loss effect of CGA has also been associated with a reduction in the absorption of glucose, a key component in a form of diabetes.

One pilot study showed that drinking green coffee significantly improved elasticity in blood vessels.  Furthermore, it reduced both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the healthy adults. Black coffee was also shown to lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, only the difference in diastolic blood pressure was statistically significant.

    DRINKING COFFEE INCREASES CALORIE BURN

As a regular habit, coffee consumption increases the rate of calories burned during resting energy levels.  In the long run, this may boost weight loss. Regular intake of coffee also increases excretion of sodium and water while retaining potassium in nerve cells, which may reduce blood pressure.

Components extracted from coffee may have potential health benefits as well. Mannooligosaccharides (MOS) extracted from coffee have been shown to promote a decrease in body fat when included in weight management diets.

For those who enjoy drinking coffee without the fanfare of added dairy, sugar or other products, a cup of java may be one habit not to worry about.
