For most women, being pregnant is one of the most joyful times in life. However, as excited as you are about your new baby, your body might not be feeling the same joy. In fact, because a woman’s body undergoes many physical and hormonal changes during pregnancy, some discomfort can be expected.
Morning sickness, fatigue, back pain, and heart burn are just a few of the conditions considered to be a “normal” part of pregnancy. Some women may also experience high blood pressure, anxiety and depression. Acupuncture is a natural and effective way to provide some relief at all stages of pregnancy. Acupuncture is a safe option to Western medications that cannot be used during pregnancy.
ACUPUNCTURE DURING PREGNANCY – THE FIRST TRIMESTER
During the first trimester, even before you know you’re pregnant, the hormonal changes that your body goes through can trigger symptoms that aren’t so enjoyable. Fortunately, many of these discomforts go away after the first trimester. But for some, they can interrupt daily routines or compromise the health of you and your baby. Acupuncture during the first trimester offers women a natural way to relieve some of the usual discomforts. In addition, for women at risk of miscarriage, acupuncture can help reduce the risk. Acupuncture can help treat some of the most common ailments, including:
- Fatigue/low energy
- Morning sickness
- Mood swings
ACUPUNCTURE DURING PREGNANCY – THE SECOND TRIMESTER
The second trimester is considered by many women to be the easiest one. Most of the earlier symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue have subsided. Nevertheless, during the second trimester, your body continues to change to make room for your growing baby. Acupuncture during the second trimester can help relieve:
- Back pain and other body aches
- Breathing Difficulties
ACUPUNCTURE DURING PREGNANCY – THE THIRD TRIMESTER
As you approach your due date, the discomforts you felt during the second trimester will likely continue. As the baby continues to grow, it will put more pressure on your organs. You may have to go to the bathroom more. Breathing might be more difficult. Of course, your doctor will be monitoring your progress more closely now. Acupuncture during the third trimester is effective for:
- Sciatica/back pain
- Breech position
- Smooth and faster delivery
