Largest Loser Week 3 Updates
“What the heck did Courtney do to you guys?” Was the first thing out of Tom’s mouth after the weigh in this week that included a record setting 6 participants losing 3 or more pounds this week.
“She absolutely kicked our butts,” said John, who posted a 3.6 pound loss.
John was joined by other big numbers from Anthony (4 pounds), Darrell (4 pounds), Julie L (3 Pounds), Raquel (3.2 Pounds), and…. Our new overall leader Nell, who dropped a week leading 4.2 pounds to take over 1st place with a total of 5.29% lost through 3 weeks.
This week was “Field Trip” week where Tom and Dr. J took our participants on a grocery store tour. They discussed key grocery shopping tips, what to watch out for on labels, and some rules to live by:
- Produce “A+” Rule: Any And All Are Acceptable
- Protein 10-to-1 Rule: Add a zero to the protein in your protein foods, calories should be less than this number, if not find a lower fat option.
- Carb 10-to-1 Rule: Add a zero to the Fiber in your carb foods (bread, pasta, cereal, etc.)…. Carbs should be less than this. If not, find a higher fiber option.
Nutrition Notes
When the dust settled, Tom noted that he is very happy with the results thus far, but isn’t content. “We’re still just scratching the surface here.” He says. “We’ve laid a solid foundation, but now is the time where we solidify that foundation and start to develop long term changes that are going to last long after the 12 weeks is complete.”
Exercise Physiologist Notes
Courtney sheepishly admitted that she did throw her week 6 workout at them in week 3. “Hey, we have a set plan, but if you get a feel that they are ready for more you jump on it.”
Hmm… was that pun intended?
