Stayin' Alive in Week 5
Going for Gold did it!! After taking 3 hits in a row with losing members, they came out on top this week!! Honorable mentions go out to Cliff putting a hefty 4.6# weight loss on the scale and Kathy charging back into the game with a 3.2# weight deficit sticking her in the leader position for her team! Let's not forget those track 2 players- they are a force to be reckoned with!! To highlight- Art blasting the scale with 5# and Cheryl chiming in with a 4 pound weight loss!! Way to go!!
Education
This week, while Courtney was in the gym revving up the exercise, Tom was educating the class on exercise metabolism. To sum it up in a nutshell- Remember your training zones and challenge yourselves with them! The trainers are tough in the gym and when it comes to HR's, Courtney tells us that she wants to know how her patients are feeling in relation to their heart rate. If you're symptomatic with exercise, then we need you to back off and bring your heart rate back down, however if you're feeling great and you don't have any underlying health issues- i.e.- known heart disease, it's okay to go above your training zone.
Another key component Tom stressed was playing with the F.I.T.T. principle. Your trainers have been and will continue to encourage you to mix it up!! Don't be afraid to add another training session to your week, increase your time on the elliptical by 10 minutes, take a walk/run outside instead of on the treadmill!!
A note from the Dietitian- don't forget about nutrition as being a big factor in making exercise more effective!! Diet and exercise go hand in hand- you can't eat whatever you want and exercise and visa versa and expect to achieve your health goals!!
Steppin' it Up in the Gym
This Saturday Courtney took the patients through a not so typical step class!! High intensity cardio, resistance training, balance, and a taste of some plyometrics- what more could you ask for besides a water break?!?! Dr. Joe had his group go outside and run up and down the hill by the pond... watch out for the goose droppings!! Courtney stated in our meeting "I see the patients putting it all out there every time they step into that gym!! The group has a 'bring it on!' attitude that I love!!"
